The Transport Separtment has recently launched its redesigned website – www.transport.karnataka.gov.in and e-payment system. The website also has special features for the visually challenged and colour blind people.
Transport minister R Ramalinga Reddy said users can increase or decrease the font size of the content, which is also visible in standard contrast and high contrast which is very helpful to colour blind people.
Visually challenged people can access the website with the help of a screen reader facility, he said. The website also has details of rules related to differently-abled people availing transport department services.
In a major relief for vehicle owners across the state, motorists can now also make online payment of fees and tax for new vehicles, quarterly tax for transport vehicles and driving licence fee on the website. The transport department will also soon launch a facility for online payment of permit fees, tax, fine and other fees on its website.
Reddy said, People can easily make payment of fees and tax in a secured manner round the clock. They can make payment through inter-banking mode from the list of 17 major banks. This will also prevent standing in long queues at RTOs for payment of fees and tax and save time.
We have already implemented the e-payment system in a few RTOs on a pilot basis and collected about Rs. 380 crore in fees and taxes from more than one lakh vehicles. The revenue collected will be sent to the government exchequer on real-time basis, said a senior Transport department official.
